Semiotics is
the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation.
Learning and researching into semiotics helped a lot with deciding on;
- A colour scheme for my magazine
- symbols and signs I will use throughout
- Facial expressions/poses
- props and costume used
The reasons I have chosen the colours for my magazine is because they are mostly related with;
Blue; Trustworthy, calm, natural and may contain connotations of power.
Red; love and passion
I think by using these colours within my magazine, it will make my target audience trust and love the magazine.
My model always has a smile, or proud look on her face in the images. Making the reader assume that my model is somewhat proud to be part of the magazine and happy to be doing what she is doing; therefore giving the reader a sense of happiness. Furthermore, if my magazine had a moody and glum facial expression, it would not relate to my type of target audience as my magazine contains all type of music and not just 'hardcore rock'.
My model has a crocodile tooth on a necklace that she says is for 'good luck'. Furthermore, crocodile teeth are symbolic with; Bravery, Honor, Strength and Dependability. I thought that by keeping the necklace involved in the magazine, when a reader notices it, they will assume that my artist/model is brave and strong and has fought for what she has achieved.
